Adjusting the Door on Your CUBE Home Freeze Dryer: A Step-by-Step Guide
Congratulations on getting your new CUBE home freeze dryer! Now that it's set up and ready to use, there’s one important adjustment you might need to make: the door seal. After shipping and setting up your CUBE, you may need to adjust the door to ensure a proper vacuum seal. It’s a quick and simple process that you’ll likely need to do again after your first one or two batches. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to adjust the door of your CUBE home freeze dryer for optimal performance.
1. Check Your Drain Valve
Before adjusting the door, make sure the drain valve on the left-hand side is closed. When the valve handle is perpendicular to the hose, it’s closed, and when it’s parallel to the hose, it’s open. Ensuring the valve is closed helps you accurately check whether your door is sealing properly.
2. Prepare for Door Adjustment
To adjust the door, all you’ll need is a Phillips head screwdriver. The door should easily slide back and forth in its slots, but the adjustment screws should not be loose. There are three key adjustment points:
- The top left corner
- The bottom left corner
- The right-hand side (magnet plate)
3. Loosen the Screws
Loosen all three screws about two or three turns. This will back the door away from the seal, allowing you to adjust the alignment. Start with the top left corner and look for contact between the door and the black seal. As soon as you see a thin black line forming, tighten the screw to secure the seal.
4. Tighten the Bottom Left and Right Side
Next, move to the bottom left corner. Tighten the screw until you see the same thin black line forming. Repeat the process for the right-hand side (magnet plate), tightening the screw until the plate slightly pulls away from the magnet, then loosening it by about 1/16 of a turn to ensure a firm seal without springing open.
5. Test the Seal with the Vacuum
Now that you’ve adjusted the door, turn on the vacuum and watch as the thin black line becomes thicker, indicating that the door is sealed tightly. The vacuum should pull the door firmly against the seal, ensuring an airtight chamber.
6. Monitor and Re-Adjust if Necessary
After running your first batch, you may need to make slight adjustments to the door again. Be sure to check the seal before each batch, and with just a few tweaks, you’ll have the perfect seal for all your freeze-drying needs.
By following these steps, you'll ensure that your CUBE operates smoothly and effectively, preserving your food for years to come. Enjoy your freeze-drying journey!
