Veterans Day has always held significant meaning for me. Having a father who was drafted right out of high school to serve in the Vietnam War, and a husband who honorably chose to serve in the United States Marine Corp Reserves for 8 years, instilled in me a great love for those who serve and protect our country.
Throughout his life, my father didn’t talk much about his military service. His memories of serving were difficult and being drafted doused his dreams of entering college right after graduation. After he passed away I did find a brief history he had written about his time in Vietnam. It was very clear the time he spent serving our country molded him into the great man he became.
As a young bride, I struggled with the time demands on my husband’s service. He was always gone when I needed him most. It seemed like most holidays and weekends were spent marching in parades, honoring fallen brothers at funerals, and training to defend our country.
Both of these men showed me what it meant to love this country, in a way I hadn’t quite comprehended before, and it changed me. I will forever be grateful for that!
One thing both my father and husband had in common was their aversion to military food. Especially MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat). I can only imagine what receiving a package of his grandmother’s Fluffy Jell-O or some freeze dried ice cream would have meant to my father while he was serving in Vietnam. Or for my husband to be able to enjoy some homemade roast with mashed potatoes and gravy, while on overwatch.
With The CUBE home freeze dryer there is no need to imagine anymore! You can freeze dry everyone’s favorite meals, treats and snacks and they can be eaten anytime and anywhere. Just add water and enjoy!
As you reflect on the meaning of Veteran's day this year, I invite you to thank those who have, or are currently serving our country! I’m sure they would love something freeze-dried in The CUBE!
